Es Firó: Moors and Christians in Sóller

On 11 May 1561 the people of Sóller repelled a landing by corsairs, and since 1855 the village has re-enacted it on the Monday after the second Sunday in May, the day after the fair. In the morning there's a flower offering and Mass at Can Tamany, where legend places the Valentes Dones; from 15:00, the speech of Capità Angelats, battles in the Port (es Través and Can Repic), the one at Pont d'en Barona and the sacking of the square, until victory is declared and La Balanguera is sung. In 2027: the fair is on Sunday 9 May and Es Firó on Monday 10 May.
