Ibiza has a quirk that surprises first-time arrivals: Ibiza airport (IATA code: IBZ) is served not by one bus line but by five, each going somewhere different. Knowing which is yours before you walk through the terminal doors saves the classic scene of squinting at departure boards with a suitcase in hand.
And there is a second detail, less obvious and more expensive: paying your fare in cash costs almost 40% more than paying by card or with a QR ticket bought in advance.
The essentials
- Airport: Ibiza (IBZ), southwest of the town, beside the salt flats.
- Five airport lines: AERO 1 (Sant Antoni), AERO 2 (Ibiza town, CETIS station), AERO 3 (the port), AERO 4 (Santa Eularia and Es Canar), AERO 5 (Platja d’en Bossa and Figueretes).
- Fare: 3.50 € by card or QR on the AERO 2, 3 and 5; 4.00 € on the AERO 1 and AERO 4. In cash: 4.90 € and 5.60 €.
- Buy before you board — there are machines at the airport — and you pay the cheaper fare.
The options, one by one
The bus: pick the right line
The five lines cover almost everywhere arrivals need. The AERO 2 drops you at CETIS, the interchange in Ibiza town and the departure point for buses to the rest of the island. The AERO 3 runs down to the port via Isidor Macabich. The AERO 5 covers Platja d’en Bossa and Figueretes. And if you are staying on the other side of the island, the AERO 1 goes to Sant Antoni and the AERO 4 to Santa Eularia and Es Canar, without going through the capital.
The detail that saves money. The card or QR fare is 3.50 € or 4.00 € depending on the line; in cash, 4.90 € or 5.60 €. That is about 1.40 € more per ticket, per person. A family of four travelling there and back pays over 11 € extra simply for using cash. There are self-service machines at the airport.
A booked transfer (the most direct)
A driver waits for you and takes you straight to the door, whether you are in town, at a northern cove or in a house out in the country. It is what you appreciate most if you land at night — many flights into Ibiza arrive late — with children, with luggage or as a group. You book ahead and on arrival you simply walk out and get in.
Taxi
There is a rank outside the terminal. It is quick and convenient for getting into town. In summer, and very much so on July and August nights, demand for taxis on Ibiza spikes and the wait can be long.
Hire car
There are desks at the airport. Before deciding, read how things work here: Ibiza restricts the entry and circulation of vehicles on certain dates, and that changes the calculation of whether it is worth it. We cover it in detail in the guide to the car limit on Ibiza.
Which to choose
- Staying in Ibiza town → AERO 2 (to CETIS) or AERO 3 (to the port).
- Staying in Sant Antoni → AERO 1, direct, without going through the capital.
- Staying in Santa Eularia or Es Canar → AERO 4, also direct.
- Staying in Platja d’en Bossa or Figueretes → AERO 5.
- Landing at night, with children or as a group → a booked transfer.
- House in the country or at a northern cove → a booked transfer; the bus does not reach everywhere.
- My destination is a boat (charter or berth) → the guide to getting to your boat, marina by marina.
- Coming to play golf → the guide to golf in Ibiza: the island’s only club and how to get there with your bag.
Our take
Ibiza rewards anyone who spends ten minutes reading up before flying. With five airport lines well spread across the island, the bus is a genuine option rather than a last resort — provided your accommodation is in one of the places they serve and you buy your ticket before boarding. Beyond that, the island scatters into country houses and coves where public transport does not go, and there a booked transfer stops being a luxury and becomes the practical choice. And if you land after midnight, which happens more often than you would think, having the car waiting changes the tone of the first night.
Lines and fares checked on 21 September 2026 on the official Eivissa transport website. The lines were renamed on 1 April 2026, so guides still talking about “line 10” are out of date. Prices change: if you travel well after that, confirm them.
