Few ports welcome a cruise ship like Maó. Sailing slowly in through its mouth —one of the largest natural harbours in the world, almost six kilometres of sheltered water— is, in itself, part of the journey: the town leaning over the water, the fortresses, the reflection of white hulls. Menorca isn’t a mass cruise destination, and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing: here it’s boutique and luxury ships that lead the way, and the island is experienced without the crush of other Mediterranean ports.
This guide sums up the 2026 cruise season in Menorca, which lines call here and, above all, how to make the most of the hours you’ll spend ashore.
The essentials
- The port: in practice, Menorca’s cruise ships dock in Maó, in the east of the island. Its natural entrance is one of the great spectacles of any Mediterranean voyage.
- 2026 season: a forecast of around 125-130 calls (provisional figure), spread across the year, with much of it outside peak summer (spring and autumn are strong).
- Profile: a predominance of luxury and boutique cruises; in 2025 Maó received around 93,000 cruise passengers.
- Your day ashore: a typical call leaves several hours; enough to see Maó or take an excursion to Ciutadella, the southern coves or the lighthouses.
- Key tip: with only a few hours, a private transfer or driver-led excursion lets you see far more than waiting for taxis or buses.
A luxury-led season
Maó has established itself as a premium cruise call. For 2026, the ships listed by the port agents include high-end names such as the Seven Seas Splendor (Regent Seven Seas), the MS Vista and MS Marina (Oceania), the Silver Muse (Silversea), ships from Explora Journeys, and exclusive débuts like the Orient Express Corinthian or the Four Seasons I. Larger lines such as MSC or AIDA also call, more occasionally.
It’s a deliberately different profile from the mega-ports: fewer 5,000-passenger giants and more small ships for the discerning traveller. It fits, in fact, with the character of the island itself.
The season’s calendar
These are the calls we’ve gathered and cross-checked for 2026. It’s a partial, indicative forecast —the real season runs to around 125-130 calls—: March and April are confirmed by the port agents; the rest comes from international aggregators and may change. It does not replace the port’s official calendar.
⚓ Calendar under continuous update: it lists 97 of the ~125-130 calls expected for 2026. March and April are confirmed by the port agents; the rest comes from international aggregators and may change (May is the most provisional stretch). This is not the official schedule.

“Capacity” is the ship's maximum, not actual passengers aboard. Times, where given, are indicative.
Ciutadella barely receives cruise ships in 2026: around 2 calls of the small National Geographic Orion (Lindblad), with no confirmed date. All other traffic docks in Maó.

Your day ashore: how to make the most of it
A cruise call usually gives you between six and ten hours on land. That’s not much to see all of Menorca, but enough for a good dose of the island if you choose well. A few ideas:
- Maó on foot. The harbour, the old town, the markets and the gin distillery are all near the berth. The perfect plan if you don’t want to go far.
- Ciutadella. The former capital, at the other end, about 45 minutes away by car. Cathedral, palaces and a postcard port.
- Southern coves. Macarella, Turqueta, Cala Galdana… textbook turquoise, 30 to 45 minutes away. Note: in summer, car access is restricted (see our guide to coves by minibus).
- The north and the lighthouses. Fornells, Cavalleria, Favàritx: wild scenery for repeat visitors or those after something different.
The key with so few hours is not to waste time on logistics. That’s why many cruise passengers opt for a private transfer or tailor-made excursion that picks them up at the port itself, takes them exactly where they want to go and brings them back in time to re-board.
Tips for cruise passengers
- Check the ‘all aboard’ time. Plan your return with a margin; distances in Menorca are short, but summer traffic is real.
- Bring water, a hat and comfortable shoes. Especially if you’re heading to lighthouses or coves.
- Book the excursion in advance. On days with several calls, taxis and vehicles go fast.
- Start early if you can. Even arriving by ship, the coves and villages are best enjoyed early.
Our take
Arriving in Menorca by sea is a privilege: few islands present themselves as well as this one, sailing slowly in through the mouth of Maó. Our advice for a call is the usual one, distilled: choose one thing and do it well. Maó at a calm pace, or a trip to Ciutadella, or a southern cove in the late morning. Sort the transport in advance —ideally with a private transfer that collects you and returns you to the ship— and spend your time looking, not waiting. A well-planned call leaves you wanting to come back; and coming back, in Menorca, is always a good idea.
