If you are coming to Ibiza in summer with your own vehicle, there is a step to take before the trip. For several seasons now the Consell d’Eivissa has limited the entry and circulation of vehicles on the island, and without a booking you do not get in.

What you need to know

When it applies. From 1 June to 30 September, both included.

What you have to do. Book a quota slot on the official platform, ibizacircular.es, before boarding.

What it costs. 1 euro per day booked.

Who does not need it. Among others, those with tax residence on Ibiza, motorcycles, goods transport and seasonal workers living on the island. Residents of Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera travelling for work, with a contract, also fall outside the general quota.

Why it exists

The measure is meant to relieve the congestion of a small island in the busiest months. The bulk of the quota goes to self-drive rental vehicles; the rest, to those arriving by sea.

What it means in practice

If your trip falls between June and September, you have two sensible options. The first is to come without a car and get around by bus, taxi or transfer, which on an island this size works better than it sounds. The second is to book the quota well in advance and accept that in August the problem will not be driving, but parking at whichever cove you are heading for.

If you come between October and May, none of this affects you: outside that window there is no limit, and it is when the island is best explored.

One note that saves trouble

The quota and its figures are approved each season and published officially, so any number you read elsewhere may be out of date. Always check the current year’s terms on the official platform before booking the ferry.
