Banyalbufar

An amphitheatre of dry-stone terraces dropping from the mountain to the sea, built to grow vines and vegetables where there was not a flat inch. You look at it from the road and understand at once why the Serra is World Heritage.

Along the coast road between Andratx and Valldemossa, one of the island's loveliest and also one of the slowest: count it in time, not kilometres.
Best time
Autumn, at harvest, and sunsets all year round: it faces west with nothing in the way.
