Cross by boat to the Maó Lazaretto

A walled hospital island inside Maó harbour, built in the 18th and 19th centuries to quarantine ships from across the Mediterranean: some 400,000 people passed through it. The guided visit lasts about two and a half hours and leaves by boat from the quay at Cales Fonts, in Es Castell, fifteen minutes beforehand. Book through the Consell's website; everyone needs a ticket, children included.

The stone vaulted hall of the Llatzeret de Maó, set up with rows of chairs for an event, with round arches and natural light through the windows.
