Cala Macarella

The definitive postcard of southern Menorca: a horseshoe of white sand, turquoise water and pines down to the shore. Beside it, its little sister, Cala Macarelleta. Serene beauty, best enjoyed early.

What to see and do

  • the postcard of the south: a horseshoe of white sand, turquoise and pines
  • in summer reached by shuttle bus from Ciutadella or on foot along the Camí de Cavalls
  • no reliable services: head down with a picnic, water and shade

Practical information

Access
On foot from Cala Galdana (~45 min, about 3 km, along the Camí de Cavalls) or by seasonal bus; car access is restricted in summer
Parking
From 1 June to 30 September you cannot arrive by car or motorbike: the public car park is closed and the only ways in are the bus, a bicycle or on foot. The bus leaves Ciutadella between 8.25am and 8.20pm (every 40 minutes, and every 20 from 15 June); €8.40 return when booked online (half price with the Consell travel card). Outside those dates there is a car park, capacity-controlled, and it fills early.
Services
Seasonal beach bar; bring water and shade
Best time
In high summer the car is not an option, so the question is not when to park but which bus to catch: the first one, at 8.25am, is the one that gives you the cove almost to yourself. In May and October, when you can still drive up, arrive before 10am.
Effort
Reached on foot or by shuttle in summer, along the Camí de Cavalls. No reliable services: bring water and shade.
Suggested time
~4 h

1 Jun–30 Sep: private cars and motorbikes are banned. Shuttle bus from Ciutadella, bike or on foot (Camí de Cavalls from Cala Galdana, about 3 km, ~45 min). Off-season: drive to the free car park, 15-20 min walk away.
