On the sunset cliffs and around the harbours there's almost nowhere to park, and in summer it fills up at dawn. So the easiest —and safest at night— choice is to leave the car behind: we drive you there and pick you up with a private chauffeur, from the first sunset to the last cocktail. This is our selection, with judgement and without the crowds: only places we've checked one by one, with their real Google rating and the honest reason it's better to come without a car.

Southwest (Ciutadella) · The island's southwestern tip, crowned by a 19th-century black-and-white striped lighthouse. An open horizon toward Mallorca — one of the most serene places to see the day off.

West (Ciutadella) · A 17th-century octagonal watchtower at the mouth of Ciutadella's harbour, reopened as a viewpoint. From its esplanade the sun drops into the sea with the Sa Farola lighthouse opposite.

North (Ciutadella) · A small northern cove sheltered between wind-carved cliffs, with white houses and a prehistoric necropolis cut into the rock. Intimate sunsets, away from the crowds.

Southwest (Ciutadella) · A pale-sand beach facing west, minutes from Ciutadella. The sun sets over the sea with Mallorca's silhouette on the horizon — an easy, Mediterranean sunset from the shoreline.

El Toro
SunsetEs Mercadal (centre of the island) · The 358 metres of Menorca's highest point, in the middle of the island. It is the only place where the sun doesn't set over water but over the whole of Menorca: you watch the light fall across the fields, the villages and both coasts at once. And at dawn, from the same esplanade, the sun rises on the other side. On very clear days Mallorca appears on the horizon.
You drive up from Es Mercadal on a paved road of under 3 km — narrow, winding and shared with cyclists; there is free parking at the top. The sanctuary and its shop close around 19:00 (20:00 in summer): at sunrise and sunset the esplanade is yours, with no bar and no services. The sunrise here is panoramic, not maritime: in summer the sun comes up to the northeast, not straight out of the sea. Arrive with a chauffeur ↗
Cantina · Illa del Rei
SunsetIlla del Rei (port of Maó) · An island in the middle of Maó's harbour, with the Hauser & Wirth gallery beside it and a garden of olive trees overhead. Not a terrace with a view: a boat trip to watch the last light fall on the harbour from the water, and come back in the dark.
Reachable only by boat: a shuttle from Moll de Llevant, 15 minutes. In high summer the last boat back leaves the island around 23:30, so sunset is possible; outside the high season the last one is mid-afternoon and sunset is NOT possible. Fortalesa de La Mola
SunsetLa Mola (Maó) · The 19th-century fortress that guards the mouth of Maó's harbour, high on the cliffs. It runs guided sunset visits and astronomy nights: this is sunset with a story, not with a cocktail.
Paid site with opening hours (April to September it usually opens until 20:00; closed in January). The sunset visits are scheduled activities with booking: check their calendar before counting on one. Arrive with a chauffeur ↗
Harbour mouth (Ciutadella) · The lighthouse guarding the mouth of Ciutadella's harbour, at the end of the promenade. Here the sun sets straight out to sea with nothing in the way; the Castell de Sant Nicolau, a few metres away, offers the same sky from the tower, with the town behind.

Castell de Santa Àgueda
SunsetFerreries (north) · The ruins of the Andalusi castle, at 264 metres, are earned by climbing a cobbled path of Roman origin. This is the map's counterweight of effort: here you don't park beside the sunset, you walk to it.
Park at the end of the Camí de Santa Àgueda and walk 1.5 km up (25-40 minutes, +172 m). Free and with no closing time, but if you stay for sunset you will COME DOWN IN THE DARK on slippery stone: a head torch and proper footwear are essential. Arrive with a chauffeur ↗
Paput
SunsetHarbour mouth (Maó) · A terrace at the mouth of Maó's harbour, where the last light comes in through the channel. It closes early: this is a sunset drink, not a late one.

Faro de Favàritx
SunriseNortheast (Maó) · Menorca's most cinematic lighthouse, on a cape of black slate that feels almost lunar. At first light the sun rises clean over the eastern sea and washes the rock — one of the island's most contemplative sunrises.

Cala de Sa Mesquida
SunriseEast (Maó) · An east-facing stretch of sand minutes from Maó, watched over by an old English defence tower. Arrive at sunrise, before anyone else, and the whole bay and its first light are yours.

Cales Fonts (Es Castell)
SunriseEast (Es Castell) · The old fishermen's quay of Es Castell — the first town in Spain to see the sun. At dawn the moored boats and shuttered terraces catch the light before the rest of the island wakes.

Platja de Punta Prima
SunriseSoutheast (Sant Lluís) · On the island's southeastern tip, with the islet and lighthouse of l'Aire cut against the horizon. First light arrives clean over the sea and turquoise shallows — one of the calmest corners of the east coast.

Punta de s'Esperó
SunriseLa Mola (Maó) · The easternmost point of Spain, on an 80-metre cliff at the far end of La Mola. For eight months of the year the sun rises here before anywhere else in the country; in summer, Cap de Creus beats it by a few minutes.
Not freely accessible: it lies inside the Fortalesa de La Mola and can only be reached on their guided sunrise activity, which requires booking and a minimum number of places. Check dates on their website; don't just turn up at dawn. Arrive with a chauffeur ↗
Es Grau
SunriseNortheast (Maó) · Sunrise without sacrifice, in the heart of the Biosphere Reserve: sand open to the east, the lagoon behind and the boats still. Fifteen minutes from Maó and, at first light, all yours.
Reachable by car, with two car parks. In July and August it fills up by mid-morning, but at sunrise it is empty. This is a protected natural area: keep to the marked paths and take your rubbish home. Arrive with a chauffeur ↗
Cala Sant Esteve
SunriseEast (Es Castell) · A narrow inlet at the mouth of Maó's harbour, between Fort Marlborough and the ruins of Sant Felip castle. The sun rises out of the eastern sea between two fortresses, and without the crowd of Cales Fonts.

Xiringuito Es Corb Marí
Beach clubSouth (Alaior, Son Bou) · A beach shack right on the long sands of Son Bou, among the island's best loved. As the afternoon fades, Mediterranean plates give way to a drink, soft music and the sun settling over the beach.

Cocktail barCala Corb (Es Castell) · A cave tavern on Cala Corb where, since 1962, locals and musicians have sung habaneras and Menorcan songs by candlelight. Not a cocktail bar in the usual sense, but one of the island's most soulful places for a drink.

Cocktail barCala en Blanes (Ciutadella) · A genuine sunset bar on the western cliff, a step from the Pont d'en Gil. It opens only for the hours that matter, with the sun ahead and the sea below.

ClubCiutadella harbour · The big room of the west, inside a natural cave in the harbour: Latin and reggaeton until half past five. It opened in 2025 on the site of the old Sakova. It isn't a quiet place, and doesn't pretend to be.
In August the queues are long. It sits on the same quay as Jazzbah, Kopas, IguanaPort and Lateral: the five clubs of the island's west fit into sixty metres. Arrive with a chauffeur ↗

ClubClaustre del Carme (Maó) · Open-air concerts in the cloister of El Carme, from May to September: flamenco, jazz, songwriters and real bands under the arches of an 18th-century convent. Sundays are jazz. It is the opposite of a nightclub, and it is Maó's finest night out.

La Terraza
ClubAirport road (Maó) · The biggest open-air club in the east, on the airport road. It opens in the small hours and the island's young crowd goes: you don't come here to talk.

Es Casino de Sant Climent
ClubSant Climent (Maó) · A village social club where live jazz has been played for decades, in a small room with no airs. It is the island's only music night that doesn't depend on summer: it opens all year round.

When the sun goes down
Almost everything on this page revolves around one time: sunset. In Menorca the sun sets around 21:15 at the height of summer and as early as 17:21 in the depths of winter. The golden hour —that warm light that makes everything more beautiful— arrives in the 30-40 minutes before sundown: that's the moment to already have a drink in hand.
