La Patrona de Pollença: Moors and Christians on 2 August

On 2 August, the feast day of the Mare de Déu dels Àngels, is Pollença's main festival, and its central event is the battle of Moors and Christians. It recalls the attack by Dragut's corsairs on the night of 30 to 31 May 1550, repelled by the villagers under Joan Mas. At seven in the evening, in Plaça de l'Almoina, by the Font del Gall, the two sides clash and the skirmishes continue until Joan Mas seizes the corsair flag. The battle has been recorded since 1860.
