Sant Antoni: bonfires and demons

Mallorca's most participatory winter festival. On the night of the 16th the demons come out and bonfires are lit in the streets, with sobrassada, botifarrons and sung glosses around the fire; on the 17th, the patron saint of animals, come the beneïdes, with a parade of floats and the blessing. It happens in several towns at once — Sa Pobla, Artà, Manacor, Pollença — and Sa Pobla's is officially declared of tourist interest.
