If Maó is the harbour and commerce, Ciutadella is history and elegance. It was Menorca’s capital until the 18th century and keeps one of the prettiest old towns in the Mediterranean.

Not to be missed

  • The old town, of narrow streets and golden stone, with its noble palaces (some open to visit).
  • Menorca’s Cathedral, Gothic, raised over the former mosque.
  • Plaça des Born, the city’s monumental heart.
  • The harbour, set in a long, narrow cove — perfect at dusk among restaurants and boats.

When to go

Ciutadella is lovely year-round, but it shines during the Festes de Sant Joan (June), when horses take over the streets. Outside the big dates, a morning stroll is enough to fall for it.
